Yin Yoga Taoism

yin yoga taoism

Taoism (pronounced Daoism) is a religious or philosophical set of beliefs & traditions that originated in ancient China over 2000 years ago.

Living Life like Flowing Water is the basic foundation of Taoism roots in Lao Tzu & from another Chinese philosopher Chuang Tzu. Their philosophy encourages you to go with the flow of life with a calm & quiet spirit. The strength of water is its ability to overcome adversities & by not going upstream or going against the current. Water consistently flows through its obstacles.

Living Life like Flowing Water teaches us instead of going against the current where attempting to force life rarely works; we have to find a place to accept all things in life ebb & flow.

One of the key principles of Taoism is called Wu Wei. This means ‘doing without doing’ or ‘actionless action.’ Instead of straining to force things in our lives to happen, which often involves fighting against the current of life, Taoists promote going with the flow, allowing the proper action to arise spontaneously. Taoism is based upon close observation of the natural world; wherein no action is forced. Everything happens in nature through ‘actionless action.’ Everything in life has its own pace & speed.

Often with our own challenges, we can become caught up in believing that we know how things should turn out, so we can desperately try to control or manipulate things or people. This is often rooted in fear. We can become fearful of what might happen if we simply allow things to unfold as they will. This makes us hooked on wanting things our way, no matter the cost. It can bring out stubbornness, obsession, unkindness, & untruthfulness, all actions that take us further away from our true selves. We can deny & refuse to see the damage it does to ourselves or others & refuse to see how much being hooked controls our life, shuts out other possibilities, or avoid something else that requires our attention.

Allowing life to unfold can be challenging. Suppose things in our lives are complicated, uncomfortable, or painful. In that case, it is much easier to put all our energy into figuring out ways to change events, yourself or other people, but, at times, what’s needed is no action, less struggle, & more acceptance that, however, unlikely it seems at the present moment, everything is happening just the way it needs to for your greater good.

We can’t see into the future or know the whole picture & only have a limited perspective on which to base our desire. If we try to force things to happen, we exclude the guiding hand of universal forces acting to steer us on the best path. We must focus on the journey rather than dissipate it with fears of where it may take us & trust it will take us wherever we are meant to be.

Give yourself time; you do not have to take action this minute. Try to relax, & know there is a bigger picture you can’t see right now.
Whether you are in the ebb or the flow, know that you will feel the opposite pull sooner or later, & all you have to do is go with it.
Watch the rhythms of life & let them show you that life moves in perfectly balanced ways.
